LA VERNE, Calif. — Caltech Track & Field sent four athletes to the Leopard Distance Carnival at the University of La Verne on Friday, where each Beaver competed in the 5,000-meter distance.
Sophomore
Gigi Pistilli (Portola Valley, Calif. / Woodside) took on the women's 5000-meters at the meet, where she posted a massive personal record and one of the fastest times in program history. The standout ran an exceptional race, crossing the line at 17 minutes and 53.53 seconds to finish first among all Div. III competitors and place 32nd overall among the 90 total athletes.
With the time, Pistilli inches closer to putting her name at No. 2 in the program 5K record boards; Pistilli currently holds the No. 3 spot while second is held by Claire Hu '22 at 17:50.10. Junior
Sophie Dalfonzo (Fair Haven, N.J. / Biotechnology & Rumson-Fair Regional) holds the school record at 17:37.11.
Multiple Beavers competed in the men's 5000m, with senior
Joey Litvin (Ardmore, Pa. / Lower Merion) leading the way. The all-time program record holder posted a strong time of 14:51.83 to finish fifth among Div. III competitors and 38th overall among the 113 finishers.
Junior
Miles Jones (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) ran an exceptional race himself in the 5K, setting an impressive personal record at 15:08.97; Jones sits at No. 7 all-time on the program record boards for the event.
Sophomore
Jacob Wolmer (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) followed in the results after setting a near-24 second PR; the New Jersey native finished at 16:12.07.
The women's and men's track & field teams will now devote full focus to the SCIAC Championships in Claremont later this month. Action begins on Saturday, Apr. 27 and concludes on Sunday, Apr. 28. Stay tuned to gocaltech.com for more information.
