REDLANDS, Calif. – Caltech Women's Tennis headed East Tuesday afternoon for a road contest at SCIAC rival University of Redlands.
The host Bulldogs, ranked third in the ITA West Region and tenth in NCAA Division III, played a fierce match but the Beavers dug in and came away with some solid results in just their second away match of the spring 2024 season.
Highlighting the day was the doubles pairing of junior
Payal Patel (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) and first-year
Hannah Ramsperger (Zürich, Switzerland / Realgymnasium Rämibühl Zürich), who held pace with their Bulldog rivals into a 7-7 tie. In the ensuing tiebreak, Beavers never trailed by more than one point and eventually pulled ahead to win the breaker by a 10-8 margin, getting Caltech on the scoreboard before the singles session.
Patel carried momentum into singles, nearly claiming a first-set victory from her #5 singles opponent before falling just short in a 7-point tiebreak. First-year
Anna Tanaka also blasted through her first set for a 6-0 win in the sixth singles position.
Head Coach
Benay Weintraub and the Beavers will return to their home courts Wednesday, Apr. 17 to finish off their match with local rival Occidental College, which was suspended in progress on Saturday due to rain.
