LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced its 2024 Women's Tennis all-conference teams, and
Payal Patel (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) was named among 18 other outstanding student-athletes in one of the toughest tennis conferences in the nation.
Patel, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering, earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors after a tremendous third year with the Beavers, amassing a team-high 10 singles wins and racking up the second most #5 Singles wins in Caltech Women's Tennis history. She further padded her own program record in career #3 Doubles wins (22), leading the team this year with seven total doubles victories.
"I am very proud of the season Payal had during her junior year," said Head Coach
Benay Weintraub. "Her leadership and resilience really shined. Payal faced many talented players this season, and her focus and drive never wavered."
Patel's success on the court helped propel Caltech Women's Tennis to the four victories against nationally-ranked programs, as well as a winning record in conference play to earn a berth in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
"Payal faced many talented players this season, and her focus and drive never wavered," said Weintraub. "I look forward to watching Payal, and the rest of the Beavers, continue to dominate in classroom and on the tennis courts next season."
Caltech Women's Tennis faces the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas Thursday afternoon in Claremont in the conference semifinal.
