Six Beavers Receive Women's Soccer Academic All-District Honors

The 2025 Academic All-District honors have been released by College Sports Communicators (CSC) and six members of the Caltech women's soccer team have achieved the recognition.

Seniors Meher Banik (Foster City, Calif. / Aragon) and Kyla Cook (Oakland, Calif. / Athenian) along with juniors Alexa Baxter (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista), Aurelia Kuester (San Diego, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy), Ana Jaramillo (Miami, Fla. / Archmidean) and Junior Amrita Pasupathy (Mountain View, Calif. / Harker School) all received the honor by maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher (adjusted to a 4.00 scale), in addition to having played in 90 percent of Caltech's matches or started in at least 66 percent of them this season.

Throughout Meher Banik's career, she participated in 58 games, starting in 44 of them, played for 3,962 minutes, made 3 assists, 23 shots, and 11 shots on goal. Off the field, Banik is majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Neurobiology. Some of Banik's accomplishments include working as a consultant for the smartphone application Tive and developing a racial bias recognition software using AI and machine learning. 

Kyla Cook (Oakland, Calif. / Athenian) is an incredible athlete for the Beavers. Throughout her athletic career, Cook has participated in 60 games, in which started 44 of them, played for 4,372 minutes, made 3 assists, 17 shots, and 6 shots on goal. Outside the field, Cook is majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She has interned at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory under the Energy Analysis Division and has presented research at Sigma Xi Student Research Conference.

Junior Alexa Baxter (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) is a crucial athlete for the Beavers. Throughout her athletic career, Baxter has participated in 28 games, in which started 14 of them, played for 1,545 minutes, made 2 goals, 2 assists, 10 shots, and 4 shots on goal. Outside the field, Baxter is majoring in Computer Science. A few of her achievements include creating two apps, one to help with at-home stroke care and recovery and the other to teach children about natural disaster safety for Technovation competitions. Baxter has also worked on an AI model to segment brain tumors from MRI scans.

Junior Aurelia Kuester (San Diego, Calif. / Canyon Crest Academy) is an outstanding player. Throughout her athletic career, Kuester has participated in 42 games, in which started 37 of them, played for 2,718 minutes, made 11 goals, 2 assists, 13 shots, and 9 shots on goal. Outside the field, Kuester is majoring in Bioengineering. As part of her professional upbringing, Kuester has conducted research on the toxicity levels in the  Tijuana River Estuary using S. Purpuratus embryo, participated in prosthetic research at UC San Diego, and designed, built and coded a robotic vision system using Arduino.

Junior Ana Jaramillo (Miami, Fla. / Archmidean) is a sensational player. Throughout her athletic career with the Beavers, Jaramillo has participated in a total of 19 games, in which started 13 of them and played a total of 1,030 minutes. Outside the field, Jaramillo is majoring in Bioengineering. Some of her research include enzyme evolution, robotic humanoids on the France Arnold Lab, and the evolution of Vibrio natriegens when exposed to antibiotic nalidixic acid.

Junior Amrita Pasupathy (Mountain View, Calif. / Harker School) is a fabulous player that has given it all in the field. Throughout her athletic career with Caltech, Pasupathy has participated in a total of 15 games, in which started 11 of them and played a total of 625 minutes. Outside the field, Pasupathy is majoring in Computer Science. One of Pasupathy's greatest achievements include becoming the 2021 and 2022 VEX Robotics World Champion after conducting research on identifying potential biomarkers of ovarian cancer and predicting resistance to platinum-based chemo drugs. Pasupathy has also completed a SURF research on multi-modal embedding spaces and image generation using AI.
