Caltech Men's Track and Field achieved personal bests in the opening two meets of the 2025-26 season.
The year started with the Whitworth Inland Northwest Invitational in Spokane Wash. Jan. 31. Junior Tyler Gatewood finished third overall in the 300m with a personal best time of 36.16.
Junior Yash Kakade (Dayton, Ohio / Dayton Regional STEM) finished seventh in the triple jump in Spokane, establishing a personal-best of 11.27m. Sophomore Maxwell Braithwaite (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) broke his personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 11.53m. Senior Luke Lamitina (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Winchester Thurston) followed suit in the same event with a personal-best throw of 12.87m.
In an indoor setting, Braithwaite actually topped his weight throw at the CMS Outdoor Indoor Distances Meet with a 15.82m throw to come in second place in the event. Lamitina finished fourth in that competition.
Caltech travels to Claremont, Calif. For the Pomona-Pitzer Salo Crenna All-Comers Meet Saturday Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m.
