Senior Brendan Flaherty (Narragansett, RI / Lake Forest Academy) extended his program record in career wins for a pitcher to 13 with a dominant outing against Nobel University on March 7.  

Flaherty pitched all nine innings while allowing just two hits and walking only two while striking out 12 in a shutout effort against Nobel. The nine innings pitched and 12 strikeouts were both season highs for the right-hander. Before Flaherty, Caltech's previous program record in wins for a pitcher was eight.  

Flaherty was well-supported by his offense against Nobel, as senior third baseman Mark Hu (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) went 1-3 with a two-RBI double and a walk. Junior Jack Bernhardt (Littleton, Colo. / Columbine) put the game out of reach with a home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning. The blast was the first of the season for Bernhardt.
