Caltech Battles Chapman in Final Baseball Series of Season

The Beavers faced off against the Chapman Panthers demonstrating strong pitching and some clutch at-bats in the final series of the 2025-26 regular season.

Senior RHP Brendan Flaherty (Narragansett, RI / Lake Forest Academy) opened the series with a complete game on the mound at Caltech on Friday. He struck out 12 in the dominant outing, tying a season high while allowing only three runs. His swing-and-miss stuff helped him strand eight runners on the bases, keeping the Chapman offense at bay.

Caltech opened the scoring early on Friday. Junior outfielder Riley Foard (San Francisco, Calif. / San Francisco University HS) led off the inning with a double down the left field line for the first of his two hits on the day. Senior Sayuj Choudhari (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) singled Foard to third, setting the stage for a sacrifice fly by sophomore infielder William Minatel (Brecksville, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) driving in the first run of the game.

Foard led the Beavers with a .289 batting average this season.

The Beavers threatened in the later innings as well, as senior Mark Hu (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) drove his second home run of the year deep to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning. Hu finished the year with 23 RBI, leading the team.
