Strong Second Half Helps CMS Past Caltech

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Rodrigo Bravo-Beneitez came off the bench and posted a second half hat trick in leading Claremont Mudd-Scripps to a 7-0 win over Caltech Monday afternoon in SCIAC men's soccer action.

The two squads were held scoreless until the game's 25th minute when Tony Garcia scored his first goal of the season off a John Shaughnessy pass. Claremont Mudd-Scripps took a 2-0 lead 12 minutes later when Shaughnessy scored to give the Stags (9-2-2, 7-1-2) a two goal edge at halftime.

Bravo-Beneitez scored his first goal on a penalty kick in the 57th minute and added his second goal 10 minutes later off a Walker Adams pass. Shaughnessy and Sam Ullman got into the scoring action with goals in the 71st and 77th minute respectively before Bravo-Beneitez finished his hat trick with a goal in the 79th minute.

The Stags outshot the Beavers (1-11, 1-9 SCIAC) 24-5 while holding a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

The contest was originally scheduled for Oct. 6 but unplayable field conditions forced the contest to be moved.
