Nahavi Mendoza scored three goals in leading La Verne to a 5-0
victory over Caltech in SCIAC men's soccer action Saturday
afternoon at Caltech's North Field.
LaVerne improves to 3-5-1 overall and 3-3 in SCIAC play while
Caltech moves to 1-6 and 1-5 respectively.
Taylor Hart opened the scoring in the 16th minute with an
unassisted left footed blast from 25 yards out that found the upper
right corner of the net. Mendoza scored his first two goals less
than one minute apart in the 25th and 26th minutes respectively.
His first goal came off a shot that wasn't completed corralled by
Caltech goalie Marcus Lucas with
his second coming off a centering feed from Donn Capps.
The score remained 3-0 until Mario Cisneros scored his first
goal of the season in the 77th minute. Mendoza finished off his hat
trick with just under four minutes remaining in the game when he
blasted a shot from five yards out.
LaVerne held a 12-3 edge in shots on goal while posting a 2-1
advantage in corner kicks.
Brandon Friedel tallied three saves in goal to post his third
shutout of the season.
