THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Two Kingsmen goals
early in the second half sealed the fate of the Beavers on Saturday
afternoon in Thousand Oaks. Playing in its second SCIAC match of
the season, Caltech was unable to convert any of its seven shots on
goal, and fell to Cal Lutheran, 2-0.
Tech kept the hosts at bay in the first stanza, despite having
to defend 12 shots and 4 corner kicks. Caltech had four and one,
respectively. One of the visitors' shots, a free kick by sophomore
Brice
Nzeukou, just missed wide in the 22nd minute.
Trouble for the Beavers introduced itself in the 58th minute
when Cal Lu scored off a free kick. Just more than three minutes
later, the Kingsmen converted another score and widened the margin,
a gap that proved to be too much to handle. Though Caltech managed
three more shots in the second half, Cal Lu attempted nine more,
for a total of 12 (24 in the game).
Senior goalkeeper Grayson
Chadwick, defending the net in Marcus Lucas'
absence, was brilliant for the Beavers as he recorded six saves.
Chadwick kept his team in the game with several key plays, but
Tech's inability to find the net for the second straight game
allowed Cal Lu (1-3, 1-1) to win its first conference contest of
the year.
Caltech (0-2, 0-2) travels to Redlands on Wednesday night to
take on the 3-0 Bulldogs.
