Lucas Strong in Goal but Chapman Prevails

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophomore goalie Marcus Lucas posted a nine save effort but it wasn't enough as three different Chapman players scored a goal in a 3-1 victory over Caltech Monday evening at Wilson Field.

Another bright spot for the Beavers came from Kunmi Jeje who scored the first goal of the season for the Beavers (0-5) in the 90th minute. The forward found the back off of a long feed from Lucas. It was the first collegiate goal for Jeje.

After firing a myriad of shots they couldn't get past Lucas, the Panthers got on the scoreboard in the 30th minute when Nick Echeverry took a feed from Chris Duran as Chapman took a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Mauricio Alfonso gave Chapman a 2-0 cushion with an unassisted goal in the 60th minute. Francesco Onorati rounded the Chapman scoring with 2:37 left in the contest.

Chapman (6-5-1) posted a 12-3 advantage in shots on goals while holding a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in posting the victory.

The Beavers return to the pitch on Thursday afternoon when they face conference foe Pomona-Pitzer at 4:00 p.m.
