Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. – Pomona-Pitzer's offense exploded for a season high in goals as they posted an 8-0 win over Caltech on Wednesday afternoon in a SCIAC men's soccer match-up.
The Sagehen win keeps them in the running for spot in the league's post season tournament as they raised their overall record to 8-7 while improving to 7-4 in conference games. Caltech falls to 1-13 and 1-10 respectively.
The Beavers had a chance in the game's 12th minute off a Marec Serlin's corner kick but the visitors couldn't convert. A Serlin shot less than a minute went wide and the Sagehen's offense started to attack. In the 19th minute Arash Mahboubi scored on the Sagehen's fifth shot of the game. Pomona-Pitzer added to their lead in the 25th minute on a Michael Ceragiolo goal.
The Beaver had a chance to get within a goal on a Brice Nzeukou shot but Sagehen goalie Rollie Thayer kept the shutout intact with just under 14 minutes left until halftime. Danny Nasry scored the final goal of the opening half when he took feed from Nate Shekita in the 38th minute.
Pomona-Pitzer all but put the game away with goals in the 56th and 62nd minutes. Lawrence MacDonald and Avery Raimondo put ball in the back of the net in upping the home team's edge to 5-0. The score remained a five goal spread until late in the game when the Sagehens scored three goals in the final three minutes.
The Sagehens held a 29-4 edge in overall shots while posting a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Thayer and Nigel Brady posted the combined shutout in goal for the Sagehens.
