Izydorek's Hat Trick Leads Bulldogs Past Caltech

REDLANDS, Calif. -- Showing why they are the regular season SCIAC champions, the University of Redlands men's soccer squad posted a 7-0 win over Caltech on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs entered the game as the nation's 22nd ranked team.

In their first game since clinching the league's championship, the Bulldogs got on the board early and never relented. Cody Carlson scored the first goal of the game after passes from Charles Pratt IV and Alex Laughton in the ninth minute. Just over seven minutes later Danny Day gave the University of Redlands a 2-0 lead when he found the back of the net off a Matej Kustura corner kick in the 16th minute.

The Beavers best chance came when Alex Runkel blasted a shot in the box in the 27th minute but Bulldog goalie Jason Smuckler made the save. Charles Izydorek scored the final two goals of the opening frame. The freshman scored his first goal in the 29th minute of a Kustura feed. In the 44th minute Izydorek padded the Bulldogs lead to 4-0 with his 11th goal of the season.

The University of Redlands kept the pressure coming in the second period. Garett Cottam got into the scoring act when he scored in the 55th minute during a scrum in front of the net. Izydorek completed his afternoon hat trick in the 74th minute with a headed goal off a pass from Kyle Savette. Tim Berggren finished the scoring with just over two minutes left in the contest.

The Bulldogs offense attacked all game as they posted a 14-1 edge in shots on goal while holding a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
