Strong Offensive Push Leads CMS Past Beavers

PASADENA, Calif. –  ClaremontMuddScripps got a pair of goals from Harrison Doyle in their 5-0 victory over Caltech on Saturday afternoon in a SCIAC men's soccer match-up.

The Stags, who came into the contest as the second-place team in the league, improve to 12-5-1 overall and 9-4-1 in conference matches. Caltech falls to 1-17 and 1-13 respectively.

Doyle put the visitors on the board with a goal in the 12th minute when he took a centering feed from Tony Garcia before depositing the ball to the back of the net. The Beavers had an equalizing chance five minutes later in front of the net when Alex Wein's header went on goal but Daniel Roberts made the save to preserve the lead for the Stags.

Ethan Hallberg scored the final goal of the opening half when he beat Caltech goalie Wesley Swank one-on-one after taking a centering pass from David Taylor in the 44th minute.

ClaremontMuddScripps put the game away with early goals in the second frame. Doyle scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 48th minute with the assist going to Jared Bernstein. Garcia scored an unassisted goal in the 50th minute when he corralled a loose ball in front of the net and blasted a shot from five yards out. Jake Bishop finished the scoring in the 71st minute when he connected on a long blast that clipped off the left cross bar.

The Stags posted a 17-2 edge in shots on goals while tallying a 14-2 advantage in corner kicks. The goalie duo of Tim Park and Roberts earned the shutout for the visitors.

Swank made a personal season high 12 saves for the Beavers.

Caltech's final home game of the season is Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when they face-off against SOKA.
