Erin Hoops scored five goals, including a fourth quarter hat trick, as Caltech knocked off Macalester 9-5 on Tuedsay evening in a women's water polo match-up at the Braun Pool.

"I am very proud of our ladies," commented third-year head coach Josh Moser. "We have talked all season about playing four quarters and tonight we did that. We played hard for a full 32 minutes and that's what we are capable of doing each contest."

After Hoops scored the game's first goal, the Scots responded by scoring back-to-back goals as they took a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. Macalester upped their lead to 3-1 on Katie's Eulau's third goal of the contest. However, the Beavers responded with a Caitlin Regan goal with 2:17 left until intermission. Caltech tied the score when Karen Dowling scored with eight seconds left in the quarter.

Eulau put the Scots back on top with a goal at the 5:47 mark of the third quarter but Caltech scored less than two minutes later to knot the contest up at 4-4. The two teams traded goals before the third quarter's final horn as the game entered the final quarter tied at 5-5.

Hoops scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 4:17 left in the contest. The junior added another goal with 3:28 remaining to pad the Caltech advantage. Regan added to the Beavers lead with a shot past Scots goalie Chloe Kaulus with 2:46 left until the final buzzer. Hoops added her last goal with 25 seconds remaining to seal the win.

Kati Peters made 12 saves in goal in recording her first collegiate victory as the Caltech net minder.

In addition to her scoring exploits, Hoops drew a team best five exclusions. Regan added five steals to go along with her two-goal evening. Dowling added two goals to aid in Caltech's victory.
