Caltech Women's Water Polo brought their best against No. 10 Carthage at Occidental College in Los Angeles, winning 15-14 in an overtime thriller on March 6.
Seniors Mia Mutadich (London, U.K. / Notting Hill) and Ealing High School and Maya Dickson (Atlanta, Ga. / North Atlanta) refused to be denied as each player had six goals in the contest. Dickson added four assists for a total of 10 points, tying a career-high. Dickson also had 10 points in a match on March 12, 2025 against Chapman.
Caltech stayed in the match early, as both teams scored three goals in each of the first two quarters to head to halftime tied 6-6. Carthage scored four of the next five goals, all in the third quarter, but the Beavers clawed back. A goal by senior Madelyn Gilbert (Clovis, Calif. / Clovis East) with 2:38 remaining in the third quarter and two by Dickson in the final two minutes of the frame kept the Beavers within one on the scoreboard heading into the final quarter.
The match headed to an eventful overtime, where the Beavers opened the scoring on a tally by first-year Kylin Elliott (Hood River, Ore. / Hood River Valley High School). Mutadich then took the game into her own hands with two more overtime goals to give the Beavers the thrilling victory.
Caltech hosts Pomona-Pitzer at the Braun Pools in Pasadena, Calif. On Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m.
