ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University water polo team scored a season-high 20 goals and defeated visiting Caltech 20-5 at the Allred Olympic Pool on Wednesday evening.
Arielle Worthington, a 2010 All-American, scored three of the Panthers' eight second quarter goals helping Chapman to a 13-0 halftime lead.
Chapman built their lead to 15-0 when the Beavers got on the board after Hanna Dodd's scored her first goal of the season. Caltech scored its first goal of the game with 3:06 left in the third quarter and out-scored the Panthers 4-3 in the final quarter.
"We picked up the intensity in the second half and we really controlled the fourth quarter. We just have to take better care of the ball early on," third year head coach Josh Moser said.
Dodd posted a hat trick with her goal in the third period to go along with a pair of goals in the final period.
Erin Hoops and Peggy Allen each found the back of the net to round out the scorers for the Beavers. Hoops also tallied four assists.
Kati Peters recorded 11 saves in goal for the visitors.
