Occidental Knocks Off Caltech in SCIAC Opener

PASADENA, Calif. – In the conference opener for both teams, Occidental jumped out early en route to a 4-0 win over Caltech in a men's soccer tilt on Wednesday afternoon at Caltech's North Field.

Occidental got on the board first when Marcus Brandford found the back of the net in the game's 11th minute. The goal came after Beaver goalie Juan Pablo Ocampo made an initial save from a Will Moseley strike but the rebound went directly to Brandford. The Tigers added their second goal of the afternoon when Traylor White scored from inside five yards in the 17th minute off passes from Tyler Eng and Moseley.

A Ben Murray corner kick help produce the final goal of the opening frame. Murray's kick bent into the box in the 37th minute where it glanced off a Caltech defender to give the Tigers a 3-0 edge at the halftime buzzer. During the first half the visitors posted a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal while recording a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.

Caltech held the Tigers to one goal in the final half but couldn't break into the scoring column. The only goal in the final 45 minutes came when Eng bent a ball in the upper right corner from 25 yards just outside the reach of Ocampo.

The Beavers put four shots on the goal during the contest but couldn't get anything by the goalie duo of Andrew Larkin and Alexander Graves. Occidental put nine shots on goal during the game.

Occidental offense was evident throughout as they posted a 15-0 edge in corner kicks.

Ocampo tallied five saves for the Beavers.
