Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. - In their first road contest of the season, the Caltech men's soccer team fell to Whittier 6-0 in a SCIAC match-up on Saturday evening.
Jonathan Palomino got the Poets on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal in the 13th minute. In the 22nd minute, freshman Devin Guthrie connected on his second goal of the season with a 30 yard strike that finished in the upper part of the net. That put the Poets up 2-0 heading into halftime.
Whittier posted eleven shots on goal in the second frame and picked up the offensive attack as Adolfo Santos had an opportunity to put the Poets up 3-0 with a penalty kick but missed wide. Palomino then picked him up as he knocked in his second goal of the game with a header that went past Caltech keeper Juan Pablo Ocampo off of a cross from Ian Cromwell.
A minute later, Jasper Albright got into the mix as he recorded his first goal of the season in the 50th minute to put the Poets up 4-0. The Poet offense continued to click on all cylinders as Sam Russell chipped in with a header off of a cross from Albright in the 69th minute
Then, as the second half came to a close, freshman Carlos Pina got his first goal of his collegiate career in the 74th minute.
Whittier continued to get solid looks on goal and played aggressively on both ends. Thimal de Alwis put Caltech's only shot on goal. Ocampo was peppered with 19 total shots, making a save on 13 of them.
