Pomona-Pitzer Holds Off Caltech

Box Score

PASADENA, Calif. – Pomona-Pitzer scored the last three goals of the contest to record a 4-1 victory over Caltech in a SCIAC men's soccer match-up at Caltech's North Field.

The win lifts the Sagehens record to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in league play while Caltech falls to 1-5 and 1-2 respectively.

Nate Shekita scored the only goal of the opening half when he controlled a loose ball in the box before finding the back of the net in the 39th minute. During the first 45 minutes of action, the visitors controlled most of the offensive action by posting a 10-1 total shots advantage while holding an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. However a stingy Beaver defense kept the game tight.

Caltech scored the equalizing goal in the 53rd minute when Mitchel Arene headed home a Young Min Kim corner kick. It was Arene's second goal in as many games.

Lawrence MacDonald scored what proved to be the game winner in the 58th minute when he took a Harris Levin feed and blasted a shot from 10 yards out. Levin added a goal of his own in the 67th minute while Shekita scored his second goal and rounded out the scoring with just under 90 seconds left to play.

Wesley Swank, coming off his first collegiate victory on Wednesday against Cal Lutheran, made seven saves for Caltech.

Rollie Thayer recorded two saves in posting the victory.
