Box Score PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands used a flurry of goals midway through first period to grab momemtum and post an 8-0 win over Caltech in a SCIAC men's soccer match-up at Caltech's North Field.
The Bulldogs raised their overall record to 7-3 while upping their league mark to 4-0. Caltech falls to 1-6 and 1-4 respectively.
The Bulldogs first trio of goals came less than three minutes apart at the mid-point of the opening stanza. Gabe Ramierz put the first goal in the back of the net in the 19th minute. Ramierz's first attempt was saved by Wesley Swank but the forward put home the rebound from five yards out. In the 22nd minute Jamie Griffin took a feed from Nico Johnson to put the visitors up 2-0. Cody Carlson finished the scoring outburst 23 seconds later with a blast from 18 yards that deflected off a Caltech defender.
Garrett Cottam ended the first half scoring with shot from in close after a crossing pass from the left side off the foot of Noah Prudhomme.
The first goal of the second frame came in the 54th minute when Evan Keny-Guyer blasted a ball on one touch from a Brad Jackson pass from the left side. Tyler Smalley headed home a corner kick from Tim Berggren in the 79th minute. The final two tallies in the game in the 88th and 90th minutes respectively when Charles Izydorek and Joe MacMillan found the back of the net.
The University of Redlands controlled play for much of the contest. They posted a 16-0 edge in corner kicks while holding a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Andreas Silva and Jason Smuckler each played a half in goal in posting the shutout.
