ORANGE, Calif. – A quick start keyed Chapman to a 15-6 win over Caltech in a women's water polo match-up on Saturday afternoon.
Chapman raced out to a 5-0 lead paced by Sam Martin's four first period goals. The Beavers got on the board with one tick left on the scoreboard as Caitlin Regan found the back of the net.
The home squad continued their offensive prowess by adding to their four-goal advantage by winning the second period scoring 3-2. Megan Larisch scored her first goal of the season just past the midway point in the frame. Erin Hoops scored the first of her three goals with nine seconds left in the period as Caltech went into halftime trailing 8-3.
Caltech rallied earlier in the third period on back-to-back goals by Hoops. Trailing 8-5 with 3:34 left until the final eight minutes of action, the Panthers stretched their lead back to four goals with an Anna Price goal 14 seconds after Hoops' goal.
Any chance of a Caltech comeback was put away in the final stanza as the home squad posted a 6-1 scoring edge during the last eight minutes. The Beavers lone goal in the frame came from leading scorer Hanna Dodd 13 seconds in the period.
Connie Hseuh continued to play well in her first season in goal by blocking 11 against the sixth ranked team in the nation.
It is the final match-up between the two schools as non-conference foes as the Panthers will become full-time members of the SCIAC beginning in the fall of 2012.
