Whittier's Defense Stymies Caltech

WHITTIER, Calif. -- The Whittier women's water polo team held Caltech's offense in-check almost all game in posting an 18-1 win on Wednesday afternoon.

During the SCIAC match-up, the Poets held the Caltech front line players scoreless during the game's first 24 minutes. The No. 8 team in the nation score five goals in the first period then seven in the second frame in taking their 12-goal advantage at halftime.

The Poets continued their scoring onslaught with two more goals in the third period. Caltech got on the board with 6:51 left in the game when Joy Lu found the back of th net.

Whittier had 11 different players find the back of the net.

Caltech got off 20 shots but time-and-time again the Poets stepped-up to the challenge.

The Beavers will host future SCIAC foe Chapman on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. then welcome the University of Redlands at 11 a.m. Saturday.
