Beavers Start Championships With Tough Match-Up

WHITTIER, Calif. -- The Caltech women's water polo team dropped a 12-2 to Pomona-Pitzer in the first round of the SCIAC Championships.

The top seeded Sagehens controlled the first half and never looked back in claiming the win. In addition to being the league's regular season champion, Pomona-Pitzer came in as the nation's to ranked team. They scored the game's first 12 goals in cruising to the win.

Caltech scored the final two goals of the game in the second half. Erin Hoops found the back of the net while Prakriti Gaba scored her first collegiate goal during the game's final 16 minutes.

Connie Hsueh was busy again in goal. The first-year made 10 saves to make the 13th time this season she blocked at least 10 in a game.

The Beavers will face Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning at 11:45 a.m. The fourth seeded Regals fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 10-4.
