Caltech Can't Find Late Equalizer Against La Verne

Box Score

LA VERNE, CA -- Alan Menezes scored a goal in the fifth minute to spot Caltech an early lead against La Verne, but the Leopards responded with two unanswered goals in winning the SCIAC game, 2-1.

Menezes' goal came as he got forward on a free kick opportunity.  Senior Brice Nzeukou served the ball into the box, and Menezes was able to beat the Leopards to the ball and give Caltech the lead.

Andrew Geenan scored in the 34th minute and Parker Langdon scored off a deflection in the 72nd minute to provide the scoring for La Verne.

Caltech had a number of late chances to equalize as they chased the game in the last 15 minutes, but opportunities by Thomas Kwok, Kunmi Jeje, and Nzeukou all went wide.

Caltech is in the midst of a difficult string of games, the game against La Verne was the fourth of eight games that happen in the first 21 days of the season.

Head Coach Rolando Uribe said, "Alex Wein has really shined these past couple of games.  He has been a steadfast defender, while still helping out in the attack from his right back position."

Uribe continued, "I am really proud of our team, we put forth a great effort today, and could have easily won the game."

Wesley Swank made six saves for the Beavers, while Jeje led the team with three shots.
