PASADENA, CA - Caltech welcomed Whittier on Wednesday afternoon as their first SCIAC opponent for the 2014 season.
Despite a solid defensive effort, Caltech fell to the Poets 8-2.
Whittier got hat tricks from Jenna Cohen and Hannah Ellett. Natalie Halvorsen-Herrera chipped in a two-goal effort to aid in the Poets win.
Both of the Beavers goals came from sophomore Soumya Kannan. She also took a team high six shots. She has now scored a Caltech best six goals in four goals.
Caltech came up with a season high 10 steals; their second best tally of the season. The Beavers also drew four exclusions in the contest. Once again, the second best number on the young season.
The Beavers host a pair of non-conference games on Thursday and Friday. They host Washington & Jefferson on Thursday (2 p.m.) then entertain Macalaster at 4 p.m. on Friday.
