PASADENA (Mar. 23, 2017) – The No. 38 Caltech women's tennis team dominated in nearly every singles and doubles spot to defeat visiting Principia College, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon.

Junior Erin Wang (Auburn, Calif. / Del Oro) slotted in at #3 singles and won her match 6-1, 6-0 while junior Vinci Chen (Austin, Texas / Westwood) finished her #5 singles match the quickest for the clinching point, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Julia Reisler (Plano, Texas / Greenhill) and senior Sophia Chen (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) also won their matches at #2 and #4, respectively.

Sophomore Kana Moriyama (Redmond, Wash. / Redmond) faced a stiff test at first singles in No. 35-ranked Paige Cooley.  Moriyama came up just shy of taking a back-and-forth, yet crucial first set when she Cooley won the tiebreaker, 7-3, after breaking back on serve facing a 5-2 deficit.  The Beavers also won both doubles matches that were contested with relative ease, taking #3 doubles and #6 singles by default.

Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers (6-5 overall, 2-1 SCIAC) will play their final non-conference match of the season when they host Washington natives and West Region No. 15 Whitworth University (3-6) on Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 2 p.m.
