Women's Polo Makes Defensive Strides Against Redlands

Box Score

PASADENA (Apr. 7, 2018) – Led by junior Katie Johnston (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore), the Caltech women's water polo team had its defensive improvement on full display against visiting University of Redlands on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers got on the board in the second period, first with a Johnston-assisted goal from sophomore Mackenzie Wooten (Las Vegas, Nev. / Northwest Career and Technical Academy). Johnston went on the score the home team's next three goals, including two in the fourth quarter where the Beavers outscored the Bulldogs, 2-1. In fact, Caltech held the visiting team to just two goals in the entire second half thanks to stout defensive pressure from the team's field players and a solid game from sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Kreider (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park and River Forest), who managed seven saves while playing the entire game. Johnston's final goal came on an eventful five-meter penalty shot, which was the junior's third consecutive penalty try due to repeated fouls on the Redlands' goalkeeper. Nevertheless, the third time was the charm for the junior.

Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will have their final home game of the season on Wednesday, Apr. 11 against visiting University of La Verne.
