Christodolou Stops Seven in Relief Against Kingsmen

Box Score

PASADENA (Sept. 22, 2019) – Sophomore Velissarios Christodolou (Athens, Greece / Athens College) excelled in goalkeeping relief for the Caltech men's soccer team on Saturday against visiting California Lutheran University.

The second-year player took over just before the 39th minute and stopped all nine shots he saw against a relentless Kingsmen attack. Seven of Christodolou's saves came in the second half in what was his Caltech goalkeeping debut. Traditionally a midfielder, Christodolou has one assist in his young career. Senior Richard Shim (New York, N.Y. / Phillips Acad.) started in net for Caltech and made three stops before being forced out of the game.

Freshman Sam Klauer (Knoxville, Tenn. / Christian Academy) scored the lone goal for the Beavers in the first half on a pass from senior forward Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge), which tied the game in the 26th minute. Klauer's three goals are now tied for the team lead and the assist marks Yu's first point since returning to the team for the SCIAC schedule.

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will be back at home on Saturday, Sept. 28 to face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 11 a.m.
