Box Score
PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2021) – Caltech returned home Wednesday afternoon to host the Kingsmen of California Lutheran University and surprised many in keeping the pressure on their mid-table SCIAC opponent all through the match.
The Beavers stormed the CLU box in the early minutes, peppering the goalkeeper with shots and confidently holding possession on the offensive end. While CLU fired more shots overall (11 to the Beavers' eight), Caltech led 5-3 in shots on goal, reflecting the hosts' poise on offense in resisting low-quality efforts.
Senior Rohan Mirchandani (Pleasanton, Calif. / Santa Fe Christian) had a pair of shots to his credit that nearly put Caltech on the board and freshman Andy Dimnaku (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) had a terrific chance in the 38th minute that nearly beat the keeper. Freshman Allan Yang (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte) orchestrated much of Caltech's ball control from the midfield, both on offense and defense. The back line controlled CLU's direct kicks effectively, only allowing two shots from the Kingsmen's five corner kicks - neither of them on net.
Head Coach Duncan Gillis and the Beavers wrap up their home schedule on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. in their Senior Day match against the University of Redlands.
