Box Score PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2021) – Caltech faced Chapman University in a chippy match where cool temperatures were balanced by the heated, physical play on the field.
The match started off cleanly, but turned more aggressive as the second half progressed. By the time 90 minutes had elapsed, the two teams were called for a total of 22 fouls, with Chapman receiving a yellow card.
Despite the final score, Head Coach Duncan Gillis voiced his appreciation for his backline defenders Andrew Larson (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) and JD Walker (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc), who worked together and individually to squelch numerous threats in the Beavers' penalty area.
Other notable performances came from junior Samir Johnson (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) in his first game back since 2019, with the former SCIAC Newcomer of the Year creating some chances for Caltech's offense. Junior Sam Klauer (Knoxville, Tenn. / Christian Academy) was also instrumental in aiding some Beaver attacks and senior forward Rohan Mirchandani (Pleasanton, Calif. / Monta Vista) came inches away from putting his team on the board with a laser of a strike that just nicked the crossbar in the 68th minute.
Caltech's next match is will be at home against Whittier College on Saturday Oct. 9 at 11 a.m.
