CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2022) - The Caltech Men's Cross Country program participated in the SCIAC Championships on Saturday, posting a fifth place finish, matching their best-ever performance at this meet. Five Beavers scored personal bests, while two others posted season best times.
Leading the efforts for the Beavers was a personal-best performance by junior
Joey Litvin (Ardmore, Pa. / Lower Merion) in 16
th at 25:42.3. Litvin was followed by sophomore
Rohun Agrawal (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) who crossed the finish line in 26:07.7 good for 24
th and a season best. Agrawal was followed by senior
Kyle Piper (Lafayette, Colo. / Centaurus) in 53
rd position in a time of 27:21.2 and junior
Kyle McCandless (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) in 57
th in 27:23.5 - also a personal best. Finishing 60
th overall but fifth for the Beavers was senior
Gaurav Phanse (Fremont, Calif. / Dublin) in 27:25.7.
Also recording a season best time was sophomore
Thomas MacLean (Redding, Calif. / Shasta) who finished 70
th , crossing the finish line in 27:48.6 followed closely by fellow second-year
Miles Jones (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) in 75
th in a time of 28:00.6. Two spots later in 77
th was freshman
Jacob Wolmer (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) who crossed in a time of 28:07.9. The 81
st spot was claimed by junior
Ryan Chan (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) in 28:20.9 - a season best, followed by senior
Patrick Martinez (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) in 84
th in a personal best time of 28:30.8. Freshman
Elyes Serghine (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) also recorded a personal best by completing the 8K course in 30:57.7, as did junior
Jordan Ostby (Brea, Calif. / Brea Olinda) finishing 111
th in 31:42.8. Senior
Julen Lujambio (Middletown, Conn. / Xavier) came in immediately behind Ostby in 32:02.0.
Up next for the Beavers is another opportunity to excel at NCAA Regionals followed by this year's National Championships. The West Regionals will take place on Nov. 12, 2022, in Spokane, Washington, while the 2022 NCAA Div. III Cross Country Championships will take place in Lansing, Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 19th.
