CLAREMONT, Calif. (Feb. 19, 2022) – After starting the season with three events out of state, the Caltech track & field team returned to California for the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet, where the Beavers shattered records and displayed some stellar performances.
On the track, graduate student Margaret Trautner (Houston, Tex. / MIT) set a program record in the women's 800-meter run, finishing second in the field and tops among SCIAC competitors with a 2:13.77 time, beating her own previous program record by nearly four seconds.
Sophomore Joey Litvin (Bala Cynwyd, Pa. / Lower Merion) finished the men's 3000m in 8:51.16, ranking 18th out of 79 competitors. In the women's 3000m, senior Claire Hu (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn) finished 12th out of 46, clocking in at 10:43.60 and over seven seconds faster than her time at the 2020 iteration of the meet.
In the field events, freshman Daniel Amelinez-Robles (Madison, Wis. / James Madison Memorial) took second place in the men's discus finals with a 41.41m throw, beating out numerous upperclassmen, including the conference's top returning thrower from the 2019 SCIAC Championships. He also placed eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 34.68m.
Sophomore Meg Robertson (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall School) notched two top-10 marks in her three throwing events, with her 32.75m discus landing her in eighth place and 9.57m in the shot put earning 10th.
Head Coach Kelli Blake will compete in the Rossi Relays hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Feb. 26.
