Box Score PASADENA, Calif. (March 12, 2022) - The No. 22 Caltech Men's Tennis program knocked off the No. 18 Sewanee Tigers 5 to 4 on a spectacular spring day at home.
Expecting great results out of their highly competitive doubles program, the Beavers were fortunate to not go down 0–3 against the visiting Tigers. In the number two doubles position Ishaan Kannan (Scarsdale, N.Y. / Horace Mann) and Jake Will (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahou School) saved a match point at 5-6 in the tiebreaker. Kannan ripped a cross court winner on match point to propel the Beavers, allowing them to enter singles play down 1-2.
The overall match was tied 4-4 when Kannan, leading his singles match 2-1 in the 2nd set, reeled off four straight games to close out his opponent with all eyes on the court. His terrific play allowed the Beavers to clinch the win.
"After a lackluster start in doubles we rebounded in singles with some excellent play," says Head Coach Jason Cohen. "It was a great win for Ishaan as both players knew it was down to them near the start of the 2nd set and Ishaan came up with the goods. This is our second win over a Top 20 team in program history and I'm excited for us to keep building as we have a number of tough matches coming up the next few weeks."
Cohen and the Beavers will be back in action at 10:00am on Thursday, March 17, when they host No. 27 Babson College. Visit GoCaltech.com for information on livestreaming and results.
