PASADENA, Calif. (March 5, 2022) - The Caltech women's track and field team had a successful home meet, recording multiple personal bests in both running and throwing events. The Beavers' hosted the SCIAC Multi-Dual #1 where they competed against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, Cal Lutheran Regals and Kingsmen, and Occidental Tigers.
Starting off the day strong, sophomore Megan Robertson (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall School) placed second in the women's Hammer Throw event, recording a personal best with a throw of 37.50m. Robertson's hammer throw now ranks second on the Caltech all-time leader board for this event. Continuing to exhibit strength in the women's Shot-Put event, Robertson recorded a 9.97m throw that ranks fifth on the Caltech all-time leader board and joins her second-ranked throw of 10.71m, recorded at the 2021 Redlands Final Qualifier.
The three Beavers competing in the women's Discus event all broke personal records. Freshman Emily Hu (Vancouver, Canada / Crofton House School) reached a new personal best with a 23.81m throw. This is a significant improvement from Hu's previous record of 20.48m, thrown just one week ago at Rossi Relays. Freshman Rucheng Pan (Brookfield, Wisc. / Brookfield East) also broke her personal record with a 21.51m throw. Robertson placed first in the women's discus event with a 34.09m throw, achieving a personal best that ranks third on Caltech's all-time leader board. Robertson's outstanding performance this season has landed three of her discus throws in the in the top 10 of Caltech's all-time leader board. The sophomore's 33.50m throw at the Rossi Relays meet ranks fourth, while her 32.75m throw at Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers ranks fifth.
During the running events, freshman Sophie Dalfonzo (Fair Haven, N.J. / Biotechnology & Rumson-Fair Regional) and senior Claire Hu (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn) placed fourth and fifth in the Women's 1500m Run with respective times of 5:08.00 and 5:08.99. Also in the 1500m top ten was junior Laren Garriques (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest), who took eighth place with a time of 5:11.68. In the 400m Dash, freshman Sophie Elam (Medford, Ore. / North Medford) placed third in her heat and fifth overall with a time of 1:08.18. Elam also reached a new personal record in the 200m Dash with a time of 30.81. Competing alongside Elam in the 200m event was freshman Isabela Ceniceros (Mukilteo, Wash. / Kamiak), who finished eighth overall and broke a personal record with her 28.55 dash time.
