PC: Jordan Ostby, Caltech Track and Field
AZUSA, Calif. (Apr. 14, 2022) – Two distance runners represented Caltech's track and field team at the Bryan Clay Invitational early Thursday morning on the Azusa Pacific campus.
Senior Claire Hu (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn) started off the day for the Beavers in the Women's 10000m Run. Hu placed 23rd out of 38 entries with a 38:06.46 finish that kept pace with athletes from Division I and II programs. Moreover, the senior now holds the second-ranked time on Caltech's leaderboard for this event, just below her own school record of 37:38.12 from the 2019 SCIAC Track and Field Championships.
After Hu's race, Sophia Dalfonzo (Fair Haven, N.J. / Biotechnology & Rumson-Fair Regional) participated in the Women's 5000m Run. The freshman crossed the finish line at 17:55.36, placing 10th in her heat of 30 runners and 26th overall out of 90 entries. Similar to Hu, Dalfanzo kept pace and outran athletes from Division I and II programs, including Northwestern, Cal State Fullerton, and Pepperdine. Additionally, Dalfanzo broke her previous personal record of 18:09.48 set during SCIAC Multi Dual 1.
