PASADENA, Calif. (Apr. 7, 2022) – Caltech Women's Water Polo hosted the University of La Verne in a warm Wednesday evening in their penultimate home game of the 2022 season.

The Beavers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior Amanda Piyapanee (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) won the opening sprint, and 18 seconds later, sophomore Riya Shrivastava (Saratoga, Calif. / Lynbrook) quickly drew a penalty against the Leopards. Sophomore Emma Gurcan (Portland, Ore. / Lincoln) buried the ensuing five-meter penalty shot and gave Caltech a 1-0 lead against the fifth-ranked team in the nation.

Later in the opening period, senior goalkeeper Zoe Rock (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) denied the Leopards of a goal on a penalty shot of their own, her first of two penalty shot saves in the contest.  After holding the Leopards to just two goals in the second quarter and one in the fourth, she tallied a total of nine saves and earned a game-high three steals from the La Verne offense.

Sophomore Tyler Fox (Cos Cob, Conn. / Greenwich) opened up the Caltech scoring in the third quarter with an unassisted goal at the 4:05 mark.  She scored her second in the fourth quarter on a pass from Gurcan, and less than a minute later, senior Yuying Lin (Scarborough, Ont. / Victoria Park C.I.) found the back of the net with Piyapanee assiting.  Finally, with just a couple seconds left, Gurcan lobbed a long-range shot into the cage for her second goal as Caltech outscored La Verne 3-1 in the quarter.
