Rock Makes Season-High 18 Saves at Redlands

Box Score

REDLANDS, Calif. (Apr. 9, 2022) – Caltech Women's Water Polo faced SCIAC rival University of Redlands on Saturday night in the final regular season matchup between the two teams.

Facing an early 2-0 scoring deficit, the Beavers drew an exlcusion against the Bulldogs with 2:34 remaining in the opening frame, and quickly took advantage as sophomore Tyler Fox (Cos Cob, Conn. / Greenwich) assisted classmate Emma Gurcan (Portland, Ore. / Lincoln) on a powerplay goal, her team-high 36th goal of the year.

Disciplined play on defense kept Caltech in the game throughout, committing only two exclusion fouls for Redlands' six. Firing a total of 20 shots in the game also kept the Bulldogs defense from getting much rest.

Gurcan later earned an assist when she found junior Amanda Piyapanee (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) wide open for a shot into the Redlands cage, notching her 18th goal of the season.

Senior goalie Zoe Rock (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) stopped a season-high 18 shots on net as the Beavers' last line of defense, good enough for a .643 save percentage in another personal best for 2022.

Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will face Chapman University in their final away game of the 2022 season on Apr. 13 at 7 p.m.
