REDLANDS, Calif. (May 18-19, 2022) – Three Caltech track team members competed in the Redlands Final Qualifying meet on Wednesday and Thursday, aiming to improve their times and earn a spot at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Graduate student Lauren Conger (Tuscon, Ariz. / Cornell) kicked off the meet for the Beavers in the Women's 1500m Run on Wednesday evening. Conger placed 8th in the event, crossing the finish line at 5:36.55. Additionally, the graduate student recorded a new personal record (PR), outrunning her previous best of 5:45.56 from SCIAC Multi Dual 3.
On Thursday evening, senior Kellen Rodriguez (Fairmont, Minn. / Fairmont) and sophomore Kyle Piper (Lafayette, Colo. / Centaurus) continued to represent the Beavers in the Men's 800m Run. Rodriguez placed 3rd in his heat and 12th overall with a 1:57.87 finish, breaking his previous PR of 1:58.56 from last weekend's APU Last Chance meet. Competing alongside Rodriguez, Piper finished 6th in the same heat and 14th overall at 1:58.75, recording his first time in the event this season.
