NEW ORLEANS, La. — Sophomore
Sophie Dalfonzo of the Caltech women's track & field team earned All-Region honors on Friday, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Dalfonzo was awarded the prestigious distinction for posting a top-five time in the 10,000-meter distance this season among all DIII athletes in the West region.
Dalfonzo recorded that exceptional time at the Apr. 13 Bryan Clay Invitational, where she ran a personal and program-record 36:59.04. The New Jersey native shattered the existing record of 37:38.12 and beat out multiple DI and DII opponents in the event.
The junior earned All-SCIAC honors last week for placing top-three in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events; she finished second in both races.
Dalfonzo followed up her two phenomenal performances with another school record the subsequent weekend, as the star posted a blazing 17:37.11 in the 5K at the May 6 Oxy Invite, beating out many DI athletes in the process.
Dalfonzo's 5K time put her seventh-fastest in the region this season.
After breaking two school records, the distance specialist will take a well-deserved rest before preparing for the cross country season this fall.
