GREENWOOD, Ind. — College Sports Communicators (CSC) released the 2022-23 Academic All-District Track & Field and Cross Country teams on Wednesday, naming three Beavers among the Division III selections.
Graduate students
Margaret Trautner and
Maria Carilli of the Caltech women's cross country team along with sophomore
Rohun Agrawal of the men's cross country and track & field teams earned the prestigious distinction. The three athletes received the honor for attaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher while competing in a majority of the team's meets in at least one of the two sports. CSC combines the selections for cross country and track & field into one list.
Beyond their outstanding showings in the classroom, all three Beavers posted impressive athletic performances this year. In the fall, Trautner qualified for and competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships after she finished 13th overall at the West Region Championships. Trautner's time of 22:17.0 at the regional meet was the second-fastest 6K time in program history.
Carilli also put in a phenomenal season, posting a 23rd-place finish at the Regional Championships. Her time of 22:37.2 was No. 4 all-time in the program record books.
Both Trautner and Carilli helped lead the women's squad to a third-place finish at the SCIAC Cross Country Championship Meet.
Agrawal had a monumental fall and spring in just his second season at the Institute. The sophomore placed 25th at the Cross Country Regional Championships, running the second-fastest 8K in school history. On the track, Agrawal moved up to No. 4 all-time on the Caltech 5000m leaderboard (14:52.41) and No. 6 in the 1500m (4:00.12).
The three student-athletes will now advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with results to be announced on June 28 (women) and June 29 (men).
