BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Junior
Emma Gurcan of the Caltech women's water polo team achieved 2022-23 All-America Honorable Mention distinction on Monday as announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The organization's All-America teams are decided on by the head coaches of each varsity program.
The prestigious recognition for Gurcan comes just over a month after receiving 2023 All-SCIAC Second Team honors.
Gurcan posted a phenomenal season for the Beavers as she led the team to big wins over Grove City, Penn St.-Behrend, Macalester and Connecticut College, pushing them to a program-best national ranking (sole No. 10).
Gurcan, a driver, finished the season with 38 goals, 18 assists and a team-high 45 steals; her 64 exclusions drawn set a new program record. The Oregon native also set a school record in exclusions drawn in a single game, tallying nine versus No. 9 Augustana.
Gurcan was one of just 36 student-athletes named to a ACWPC Div. III All-America team this year.
The team will return to action in 2024 after losing just one senior to graduation this June.
