ESTACADA, Ore. — The Caltech men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA West Regional Championships on Saturday, where both squads placed highly with multiple Beavers earning personal records. The Beaver men earned seventh place out of 24 teams while the women secured 12th among 25.
The Caltech men put themselves in the record books, running the fastest combined average 8K in Caltech history (25:25), while senior
Sophie Dalfonzo (Fair Haven, N.J. / Biotechnology & Rumson-Fair Regional) of the women's team cemented her name in Caltech history with the program's fastest-ever individual 6K time (22:00.9).

Rohun Agrawal (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) and senior
Miles Jones (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) were
awarded All-Region distinction by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The men scored 206 points en route to their seventh place result, beating out all but two SCIAC competitors.
Agrawal put up an exceptional showing, leading the group with a stellar 19th place performance among 174 individuals. The standout tackled the 8,000-meter (~4.97 mile) course in a blazing 24 minutes, 51.1 seconds — the fourth-fastest 8K time in Caltech history. Agrawal just missed out on his own school record time of 24:47.6.
Jones came across moments later, earning a 27-second personal-record time of 24:56.6 to nab 25th. Jones caps off his cross country career No. 3 all-time on Caltech's all-time 8K recordboard.
Rookie
Stephen Goehringer (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) ran a 32-second personal record to finish as the third-fastest Beaver, crossing the line at 25:24.1 to finish 40th while senior
Thomas MacLean (Redding, Calif. / Shasta) finished in 25:54.0 to grab 59th and a 24-second PR. Sophomore
Ryan Fortin (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) rounded out the top five seconds later in 68th at 26:00.5.
Rookie
Aditya Pakal (The Woodlands, Texas / The John Cooper School) earned a personal record of over 10 seconds at 26:26.1 to finish 90th; classmate
Jack Sullivan (Bethesda, Md. / Georgetown Preparatory) came across in 102nd with a time of 26:37.1.
The women's 12th place result came after scoring 363 points; the group ran a combined average 6K (~3.73 mile) time of 23:25 to top multiple SCIAC foes. Dalfonzo's program-record-smashing time of 22:00.9 topped the previous record of 22:16.5 from 2019; the senior's historic time earned her a phenomenal 26th pace among 174 athletes.
Junior
Gigi Pistilli (Portola Valley, Calif. / Woodside) followed not long later at 22:30.8 to grab 38th and a new PR. The Beaver was followed by classmate
Camilla Power (Edmonds, Wash. / Saint James), who put in an excellent race in the third position, earning 92nd overall with a personal best time of 23:49.7.
Senior
Sophie Elam (Medford, Ore. / North Medford) came through as the team's four-stick, placing 103rd with a superb time of 24:16.6 in her first-ever 6K while rookie
Hypatia Hamkins (New York / The Brearley School) rounded out the top 5 moments later at 24:29.4 to place 110th, besting her previous PR by nearly 26 seconds.
Junior
Elisa Grillo (Cypress, Texas / Bridgeland) came across at 24:57.3 to place 135th while first-year
Katelyn Sadorf (Boca Raton, Fla. / Spanish River) finished in 26:23.3 to earn 166th.
Dalfonzo concludes her Caltech cross country career with the 6K school record, four All-SCIAC honors and two All-Region nods. Agrawal wraps up his cross country career with three All-Region honors and the fastest 8K time in school history; Jones ends his career at No. 3 all-time in 8K program history.
