LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — Sophomore midfielder
Marie Choi-Schattle (Barrington, R.I. / Barrington) and senior forward
Jennifer Solgaard (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) of Caltech Women's Soccer received Second Team All-SCIAC recognition for their excellent play in 2024, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
announced on Tuesday.
Choi-Schattle posted a career year, scoring a team-leading seven goals to tie the program's single-season record, achieved in 2022 by Solgaard. Choi-Schattle finished the year tied for second in the SCIAC in goals scored; her seven goals plus two assists put her at a team-high 16 points, good for third in the conference. Remarkably, the sophomore accomplished these feats in just 13 games played.
The standout's most dominant performance came on Sep. 14 against Life Pacific University as Choi-Schattle delivered a hat trick to lead Caltech to a decisive
3-1 victory. She again scored all of the team's goals in the Beavers'
2-2 draw with Linfield University on Sep. 6 before assisting the eventual game-winning goal in the team's
2-1 win over Occidental College on Sep. 18.
Solgaard earns her second consecutive All-SCIAC nod after another strong season; the program's all-time leading goal scorer was one of just three forwards to earn Second Team honors this year. Notably, the senior wrapped the year with four goals to finish tied for ninth in the conference and extend her own school record in career goals to 15. The star also notched three assists, tying her own program record for single-season assists. Her 11 points landed her tied for eighth among all SCIAC players.
Perhaps the senior's most important moment of the year came on Sep. 18 in the Beavers'
2-1 victory at Oxy as she scored the eventual game-winning goal after receiving the feed from Choi-Schattle. Solgaard also assisted the go-ahead goal in the team's
2-2 draw versus Linfield and assisted two of Choi-Schattle's three goals in the squad's
3-1 win over Life Pacific.
Both players played a monumental role in the team's success this year; the group tied the program record for conference wins in a season and came one win victory short of tying its all-time mark for single-season wins.
This is the sixth straight season in which one or more members of the Caltech women's soccer team has received All-SCIAC; the program's inaugural 2017 campaign serves as the only season in which a Beaver did not receive the honor.
