CLAREMONT, Calif. — Caltech Track & Field headed east for the annual Rossi Relays on Saturday, where a number of Beavers earned impressive marks and times both in the field and in the lanes.
Perhaps the most notable performance came out of the men's discus throw, as senior
Ezra Johnson (Colombus, Ohio / Columbus Academy) posted his best-ever performance at 43.53 meters (142 feet, 10 inches) to earn third place overall among 19 athletes; the standout placed first among Division III athletes.
With the result, the thrower moves up to fourth all-time in school history for the event. The last time a Caltech man posted a top-4 program mark for discus was in 1999.
Johnson continued his strong day in the shot put, where he earned eighth place overall and third in Div. III with a mark of 12.85m (42' 2").
In the men's high jump, first-year
Tyler Gatewood (Corpus Christi, Texas / W.B. Ray) tied for third place overall and tied for first among Div. III opponents. The rookie cleared a height of 1.88m (6' 2"), just missing out on his collegiate best of 1.90m (6' 2.75"), which put him tied for fifth in program history for the event.
Senior
Meg Robertson (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) followed up her
school-record performance in the women's discus last week with another excellent outing; the star placed eighth overall and first among Div. III athletes on Saturday with an impressive mark of 36.99m (121' 4").
In women's shot put, the Beaver placed 12th place overall and finished first for Div. III with an excellent throw of 10.73m (35' 2.5"). The star reached the program's No. 2 all-time mark of 10.95 (35' 11.25") in the discipline last April.
The thrower wrapped up her excellent meet with a ninth-place finish and second among Div. III in the hammer throw. Robertson registered a 43.82m (143' 9") performance in the event, just missing out on her own school record by about two feet.
Junior
Emily Hu (Vancouver, B.C. / Crofton House) followed Robertson in 12th place – third for Div. III – with a personal-record throw of 38.07m (124' 11"). With the result, Hu moves up to third on the program's all-time hammer throw leaderboard.
Junior
Jadon Hale (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) led the Beavers in the men's hammer throw with a personal-record mark of 41.10m (134' 10"), earning him seventh place and third among Div. III competitors. The thrower now moves up to sixth all-time in the men's hammer throw program records. Sophomore

Caltech finished in sixth out of 13 total teams and first among Div. III in the women's 800m sprint medley. Junior
Isabela Ceniceros (Mukilteo, Wash. / Kamiak) and first-years
Aurelia Kuester (San Diego / Canyon Crest Academy),
