PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Women's Tennis hosted No. 4 Middlebury College Wednesday afternoon, taking on their second national top-10 opponent in as many days.
Unfazed by the caliber of the opposition, the Beavers fought valiantly and nearly claimed some match points in Doubles, with the
Emily Zhang /
Anna Szczuka duo on Court 3 winning five games and the
Payal Patel /
Hannah Ramsperger pairing on Court 1 narrowly falling 8-6.
Bouncing back for a #4 Singles win was junior
Yoyo Benchetrit, calmly putting away her opponent by 6-3 and 6-4 set scores to claim her third singles win of the season.
And once again going the distance in the longest singles match of the day was sophomore
Anna Szczuka on Court 5, first trading 6-3 set scores and then outlasting her rival in an extended tiebreak with a 13-11 score. Szczuka's victory was her
third singles win in six days, all against nationally-ranked programs.
Head Coach
Benay Weintraub and the Beavers will rest this weekend before a Monday morning tilt against Pacific University (Ore.).
