AZUSA, Calif. — Junior
Rohun Agrawal (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) of the Caltech men's track & field team continued his historic season on Friday as he toppled his own program record in the 5,000 meters.
Agrawal competed in the high-level Open "B" race, where he bested his own school record of 14 minutes and 23.33 seconds with a blazing time of 14:12.80. The star placed 14th in the 75-athlete race, comprised primarily of runners from Divisions I and II. Agrawal was the highest Div. III finisher.
With the time, the Beaver moves up to 19th nationally in the distance among all Div. III athletes this spring and has now improved his best 5K time from last season by nearly 40 full seconds.
Agrawal
achieved the 5K school record for the first time at the Oxy Distance Carnival this past March; later in the month, he
smashed the 10,000-meter school record at the Mangrum Invitational.
Junior
Sophie Dalfonzo (Fair Haven, N.J. / Biotechnology & Rumson-Fair Regional) also competed at the meet, taking on the women's open 10,000-meter race where she ran a strong 38:45.38. The talented Beaver set the program record in
the 10K and
5K last season.
The men's and women's track & field teams will now devote full focus to the SCIAC Championships in Claremont later this month. Action begins on Saturday, Apr. 27 and concludes on Sunday, Apr. 28. Stay tuned to gocaltech.com for more information.
