Emma Gurcan Earns Women's Water Polo All-SCIAC Recognition

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SCIAC) announced its Women's Water Polo All-SCIAC honorees for the 2024 season Thursday morning, recognizing Caltech senior Emma Gurcan (Istanbul, Turkey / Lincoln HS; Portland, Ore.) for two awards.

Finishing her intercollegiate career with an outstanding year, Gurcan received First Team All-SCIAC recognition along with nine other individuals from one of the most competitive conferences in Division III water polo. Additionally, Gurcan earned the prestigious Character Award, given to one senior each year for exhibiting exemplary sportsmanship through genuine interactions with officials, opponents and across the water polo community.

"Emma Gurcan embodies the spirit of Division III collegiate athletics and the mission of Caltech," Head Coach Jon Bonafede said. "Her passion for water polo, academics and her teammates is unparalleled, and her work ethic, commitment and sportsmanship have transformed our program. She demonstrates exemplary character and she has undoubtedly been the driving force behind the success of our program."
