CLAREMONT, Calif. — First-year
Tyler Gatewood (Corpus Christi, Texas / W.B. Ray) of Caltech Track & Field cemented his name in the history books this past weekend as he won the SCIAC title in the men's high jump.
Gatewood competed in the event at the
SCIAC Championship Meet, where he earned first place in the event over 18 other athletes. The rookie stunned with a personal-best mark of 1.97 meters (6 feet, 5.5 inches) in his third and final attempt at the height to nab the conference title in just his first collegiate track season.
With his historic jump, Gatewood soars up the Caltech all-time top-ten list; he is now No. 3 all-time in program history for the event. The standout's previous collegiate best entering the championships was 1.90m (6' 2 ¾").
