REDLANDS, Calif. — A number of athletes from the Caltech women's and men's track & field teams competed at the Redlands Final Qualifier on Wednesday and Thursday, with multiple Beavers earning personal records and one athlete besting a school record.
The most significant result of the meet between the two programs came out of the women's hammer throw, where senior
Meg Robertson (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) capped off her decorated career by topping her own school record. The star posted a 45.92-meter (150' 8") throw in her fourth of six attempts to improve on her previous record of 45.34m (148' 9").
Robertson also took on the shot put where she came up with a strong throw of 10.44m. The Beaver sits at No. 2 all-time for the event, accomplished last season.
Sophomore
Gigi Pistilli (Portola Valley, Calif. / Woodside) wrapped up her sophomore season with a brilliant performance in the women's 10,000m, crossing the line at 37:54.13 to finish first and set a new personal record. The standout recorded the strong time with just two other athletes — both teammates — in the race. Pistilli sits at third all-time for the 10K on the program record boards.
Senior
Katy Chu (Los Gatos, Calif. / Saint Francis) finished her college career with her first-ever 10K race, finishing behind Pistilli with an excellent time of 38:56.67. With the result, Chu puts her name at No. 4 all-time in program history for the distance.
Junior and school record-holder
Sophie Dalfonzo (Fair Haven, N.J. / Biotechnology & Rumson-Fair Regional) finished third with a time of 39:21.32 after helping pace Pistilli and Chu.
Senior
Joey Litvin (Ardmore, Pa. / Lower Merion) took on the 1500m where he ran a quick 3:58.09 to nab seventh overall out of 15 finishers. The Beaver nearly bested his PR of 3:57.75,
set earlier this month to put him No. 3 all-time for the distance in school history.
Senior
Ezra Johnson (Columbus, Ohio / Columbus Academy) posted a 13.08m (42' 11") in the shot put to finish fourth; the talented Beaver moved up to No. 6 all-time with a 13.98m (45' 10 ½")
last month.
Rookie
Miigwan Tanner-Wostrel (Cloquet, Minn. / Cloquet) ran an all-conditions PR of 23.83 in the 200m before taking on the first open 100m of his collegiate career, crossing the line in 11.58 seconds.
First-year
Angelica Moussambote (Chicago / University of Chicago Laboratory Schools) posted a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 8.31m (27' 3 ¼") before she posted a 25.27m (82' 11") result in the hammer throw.
Fellow rookie
Nathan Jay (Fremont, Calif. / John F. Kennedy) also earned a PR as he ran his fastest-ever 800m as a Beaver at 2:05.55.
Sophomore
Sidd Shendrikar (Los Angeles / New Roads School) posted an 11.51m result (37' 9 ¼") in the triple jump and a 5.74m (18' 10") performance in the long jump.
The men and women will take a well-deserved break before the returning distance athletes take on cross country competition this fall.
